About Colorless Runes

I've notice more and more people using the color codes in chat lately. It seems that the practice is set to become an epidemic. I'm particularly irritated by such randomness, and quite want to be rid of it.

To that end, this addon. Currently it searches incoming chat messages and strips them of all color codes, leaving only the default channel colors. Details and exceptions below. This is still beta functionality, if there are any rough edges please let me know. The error message in the image below indicates what the incoming text looked like prior to going colorless, those messages will not display in the distributed version.

What This Will Not Do:

This does not affect item link colors.
This should not affect other system-generated colors, for instance when a guild member leaves the guild. If you see any that are affected let me know.

Zone
Guild
Party
Whisper
World (I think, needs testing)
Say (filters color in chat box, but not the world view)

ToDos:

Options for
Allow colors from friends
Allow colors in each channel individually
Allow color from a single name (raid leader)
Add an indicator on filtered messages

I would like to suggest something between you and Vlocka. I played a few games that colored what I said differently from others only in my chat window. This made it so much easier to find questions I might have asked and answers that followed and various other things. I don't really need extra attention changing my chat color I just want to be able to find what I said in the midst of the clamor.

So if there could be an addon that only made client side color changes that would be awesome.

Can't think of a reason this couldn't be done, though different channels handle messages slightly differently.
Unfortunately, I've got too much to handle right now as it is. I haven't made some necessary fixes/improvements to this addon, nevermind taking on what is essentially a completely new one.

I approve of it and will keep in mind, wont be using though yet, since Siochain hasn't got yet that many color users (except for guild advertising on world)and when they do appear - they get flamed to hell ;)

version 0.1 will fail to match colors like ffaabbcc since it's currently only testing for decimal numbers 0-9. I wrote you a private message though on how to fix it.

No, I'm glad you made it, I thought about making the same thing too because a lot of people were complaining about that colors everywhere..

Heh, I'm not looking for a fight. :)

I just saw some functionality that was lacking, so I implemented it. I know people use colors for legitimate reasons; hence all the options in the ToDo list. I have no intention of stomping on organizational or other purposeful uses of color, just the lame kiddies that set up thier clients to send every message to zone chat in fuscia simply because they can, and such nonsense.

And if you're interested in helping I'd welcome it. This is my first addon, and my first use of lua. I'm a mildly accomplished developer, but I have minimal knowledge of this particular environment. :)
