  • About Shut Up!
  •

As someone who chats quite a bit in Zone, the occasional spam-bot can get quite annoying. Blacklisting them is tedious, and they come along so often, I get frustrated. I tried a few of the AddOns to block spam, but unfortunately, they invariably gave me false positives.

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Shut Up! is the first fully customizable spam-bot filter. Currently, it is only set to filter out the names of the major gold-selling sites. That means that if someone types "www" in chat, they won't be blacklisted. Only if they link you directly to a gold-site. Currently, only "gamekoo mmogood 3zoom gaincoin
8thgame" are blacklisted keywords. It also replaces spam with a very subtle grey, which barely shows up in your chat.

Users can add or remove 'keywords' by using the /su command.

*/su help - lists all commands.

*/su add <word> - adds a word to the database of blacklisted words. (Remove the "<" and ">", of course!

*/su remove <word> - removes a previously added word.

*/su list - lists blacklisted keywords.

*/su show - toggles show or hide on 'spam' text.

That's pretty much all you need! Report any bugs here, and I'll try to get them fixed as soon as possible.

  • mmovo.com spambots have been sneaky lately. Can the addon be made account for capitals and spaces? Currently typing /su add M M O adds it as mmo (Or something else that I forgot that isn't what the bot spams so the addon won't block it). I tried adding M M O manually to the saved list of words to look for, but although I can call it up with /su list, it's not actually blacklisting bots that have this term in their spam. Adding m_m_o worked for a bot spamming that, but not checking for a term with caps, spaces, or both in it.

    Also saw a bot spamming once like ---m-m-o-v-o......and so on, and what ended up happening is that not only did it pick up ANY person who spoke in zone that didn't have these dashes (Basically blacklisting people just for speaking), but it wasn't blocking the bot at all. Everybody but the intended target was being blocked when i added --m-m-o to my list.

    Would it be possible to make it recognize the sneaky way spambotters like to separate their site names, please?

    since the last update I'm no longer getting the ShutUp messages, only getting messages that "nameofspammerhere" has been added to my blacklist. It's pretty much filled up my blacklist and made all the people that I had manually blacklisted myself drop off!!

    This is not what I expected of this mod since I thought it was just adding the spam to the list not to my blacklist? Adding them to our blacklist is not practical with this mod since we can't stop it from deleting old ones when the list is full :/

    I lost many "old" blacklisted people that I had to reblacklist :/

  • What you're asking defeats the purpose of the entire addon, really. It's for people who only care to blacklist bots, not actual players. If you actually go to the trouble blacklist people and keep them there, I suppose this adddon isn't for you since the blacklist gets edited with new bot names while old ones are removed (In your case your manually blacklisted people would get pushed off along with the bots)

    Bots are deleted and remade with a different name so often that you'll actuually want old bots to be deleted so you don't keep names you will never see 2 days later.

    And yes I realize this is in reply to an old post, but seriously when they get this, people are basically signing over all rights to control of their blacklist for the peace of mind of not seeing spambots. I see it as a worthwhlike tradeoff and Avree made a nice addon, but you might not see it that way.

    Not sure what you're saying - Shut Up! has always used the in-game blacklist. There's no way for it *not* to - if it was trying to remove the chat, it'd leave spaces in your chatbox whenever someone who was 'fake blacklisted' chatted. Shut Up! lets you auto-blacklist.

    While playing RoM for some weeks (and having the AddOn "Shut Up!" installed) I still received many spam messages (many of them as whispered chat).

    Here is the list of URLs of the Gold-Sellers:
    - RMT4GAME.COM
    - FREE-ITEM.TK
    - GAMECI.COM
    - MMOVO.COM
    - LEVELN.DE
    - RUNESOFMAGIC.CC

    I do not know if you plan to update the internal list in your AddOn or if the user has to do this manually.
    I would love if the AddOn is updated by the author (if the URLs above are added to the default list that is delivered with the AddOn).
    So all users benefit from that update and not every user using this AddOn has to enter the same URLs manually.

    If you plan to add the URLs reported by users in your default spam list, then all users should send the URLs of spammers that are not yet in the default list.

    The default 'spamlist' is kept short due to the fact that you can manually add more names, but I will do my best to keep it current in future updates.

    Posting the names of common spam sites is the best way to facilitate this, as my RoM time has been severely limited as late due to my increasing need to earn money. :P

    Another site would be www.leveln.de, frequently spams as w w w . l e v e l n . d e to avoid automatic blacklisting...

    Go ahead and add them to your own personal databases - /su add will store throughout sessions, so you only need to add once.

    Could you please make a change
    From:
    Line 27: local s = string.lower(arg1);
    Line 28: for index,pattern in ipairs(ShutUp_patterns)

    To:
    Line 27: local s = string.lower(arg1);
    Line 28: local s = string.gsub(s," ",""); -- remove space from chat line
    Line 29: for index,pattern in ipairs(ShutUp_patterns)
    etc...
    This auto stop those spammers who add space to this gold site name to avoid
    being blacklisted

    After first initial block of the spammer i get spam from this addon displaying "Failed to add to blacklist, target player is already in your blacklist." each time when blocked person is saying same message again.

    That's you lagging. Happens sometimes, shouldn't be consistent. Basically, the messages continue to appear even after the initial blacklisting.
